Alabama has a rich hunting heritage with over 250,000 licensed hunters taking to the fields and forests each season. According to a recent report, hunting in Alabama provides more than 6 million man-days afield annually and a significant  impact on our economy. To better serve Alabama hunters, the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division recently looked introspectively and developed Guiding Principles and Strategies to use as a measuring stick for future operations of our agency.
Alabama has tremendous natural diversity with more than 1.3 million acres of public hunting land and some of the most liberal seasons and bag limits in the nation. Alabama hunters have an opportunity to hunt many species, including, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, bobwhite quail, feral hogs, waterfowl, rabbits, squirrel, mourning doves, and many other species.

Laws, Regulations, Enforcement, Seasons and Bag Limits, Report a Violation
.jpg) Alabama trapping and hunting seasons and bag limits are established through the Conservation Advisory Board and promulgated by the Commissioner of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Wildlife Management Areas, Where to Hunt, Youth Hunts, and Oak Mt. State Park Archery Deer Hunt Information
Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries operates and maintains 37 Wildlife Management Areas across Alabama comprising 760,000 acres as well as 17 Physically Disabled Hunting Areas. The 2012-2013 WMA hunting schedule is available by clicking here. In addition, the U. S. Forest Service and Corps of Engineers allow public hunting on some of their lands in Alabama. There are many commercial hunting lodges that provide southern hospitality at its finest. Visit the "Where to Hunt" page for information regarding Alabama lands open to hunting. Federal and state laws allow the Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries to schedule special hunting opportunities for our youth. Please click here for information regarding the various youth hunts scheduled in Alabama.
The Oak Mountain State Park Archery deer hunts are modeled after other urban deer control programs across the United States. These hunts have proven beneficial to the native vegetation and other natural resources in the park. The hunts are administered by the State Parks Division in a cooperative effort with Bowhunters of Alabama.
