53. The Certain Tract

Location: Madison County
THE CERTAIN TRACT (Dedicated by Forever Wild Resolution as the Certain Nature Preserve and Recreation Area) in Madison County consists of 340 acres that serve as an addition to tracts protected and managed by the Land Trust of Huntsville and North Alabama. The tract has one of the only permanent springs in that portion of the mountain, and also supports a small population of rare plants. The land is managed cooperatively with the City of Huntsville and the local land trust, providing the public with hiking trails and seasonal interpretive programs. This tract was purchased, in-part, through a financial contribution of $156,000 from the following local partners: the City of Huntsville, the Madison County Commission, the Land Trust of Huntsville and North Alabama, and the North Alabama Sierra Club.
